M.E. THERMAL ENGINEERING

M.E. (Thermal Engineering) Approved Strength : 18
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
Anna University Chennai has selected JJCET as one of the centers for providing post graduate studies in the field of thermal engineering. Post graduate programme in thermal engineering was commenced in the year 2010. The total intake is 15 + 3 (part-time) per year. Part of the total intake also includes seats filled through management quota. Right from the start, the thrust has been given to practical relevant research, development work and regular interaction with industries. The department is approved for carrying out research programme leading to Ph.D. (Full time and Part time) by Anna University . An AICTE sponsored project work “Computerized Internal Combustion Engine” for Rs.4.25 lakhs was carried out in this department.
LABORATORIES

Thermal engineering laboratory is one of the core laboratories of mechanical engineering branch which is mainly intended to introduce the fundamental theory and the practical industrial applications in the field of thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics and solar energy. This laboratory supports the courses for the undergraduate and post graduate studies. Moreover, this laboratory also supports the advanced research in the area of thermal engineering, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics.

This laboratory consists of various types of heat engines covering both internal and external combustion engines. More specifically, the laboratory has been equipped with Computerized Internal Combustion Engine which is used to measure the Performance analysis and Emission norms of I.C. engine at different composition of fuels. In addition, the Combined Steam Boiler and Steam Turbine is introduced to evaluate the boiler efficiency and the overall efficiency.
